Bay Of Plenty Artisan wine makers make and blend distinctive wines that uphold their region's cultures and traditions from vineyard to palate, in small batches, often preservative free and with organic grow techniques.
Tony Firmin is the very image that belies the old adage that you can’t teach old dogs new tricks. This English-born grandfather, former sales rep, sharemilker, restaurateur and orchardist has recently added winemaker to his résumé. Having been certified to start making his own wine, the Firmins Fruit wine is all set to reach exceptional heights in the New Zealand wine industry. Tony describes his venture as a boutique winery but uses the same machinery as larger wineries ensuring that his strawberry, feijoa and blueberry wines match the demand that they will soon be experiencing. The White Goose Orchard and now Winery is all set to become a leader in the fruit wine market and with the solid support of his wife Jutta and family – Tony Firmin believes he has it all, for now at least.
